Autism SA is seeking to employ Full Time Senior Autism Advisor based in Darwin.

The Autism Advisor Program provides a central point for advice, information and referrals to service options for families and carers with a child under 7 diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. This position is required to coordinate the day to day operations of autism advisor services in Northern Territory, help eligible families to access the service package and navigate to the funding.

This position is required to be flexible and accessible in order to provide assistance to people with a wide range of cultural needs, over a variety of geographical areas. Specifically, the role is responsible and accountable for: 

  • Provide information and support to families to help them transition from HCWA to the NDIS
  • Providing leadership to the team to ensure the delivery of timely program services
  • Directly supporting families to navigate the service system both pre and post diagnosis
  • Supporting sector development
  • Delivery of Early Days Workshops to eligible families
  • Leading and supervise staff ensuring the provision of effective high quality support services

The hours are flexible and suitable times of work will be negotiated with the successful applicant.  

Special Requirements:

  • Current Northern Territory Driver's Licence
  • Current Ochre Card
  • Regional, remote and interstate travel required
  • Working from home arrangements negotiable
  • Additional hours of work may be required

 Qualifications:

  • Essential:          Degree in Developmental Education or Social Work, or in preparation for transition to NDIS a Degree in a relevant NDIS nominated profession for Early Intervention Supports for Early Childhood. (Other relevant qualifications and sufficient relevant experience to support NDIS approved qualification exemption for the delivery of Early Intervention Supports for Early Childhood may be considered.)
  • Registration:     Eligibility for full membership of the relevant professional association (as defined by the NDIS professional qualification requirements of the relevant profession )
  • Desirable:         Certificate IV – Training and Assessment

Experience:

  • In working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • In the implementation and evaluation of programs
  • In providing advice, counselling, information and referring families/carers of children with disabilities to service options
  • Specialist experience in managing staff and working in a multi-disciplinary team and in remote and isolated areas.
  • Specialist experience in delivering workshops to professionals and families
  • Knowledge of disability funding packages, including National Disability Insurance Scheme, Helping Children with Autism and Better Start.
